Short description

Energy efficient Home Appliances can make a considerable contribution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Studies completed by independent bodies have found that home appliances make a significant contribution to reduce energy consumption and global warming. A ten year old refrigerator consumes up to five times as much energy as a comparable new model. But despite all of the efforts made to exploit easily achievable CO2 reductions. European homes still contain circa 18 million home appliances that are more than ten years old. Replacing all of these obsolete appliances with highly efficient new models would cut CO2 emissions by about 22 million metric tons every year, or around six percent of the total reduction to which the European Union committed itself in the Kyoto Protocol.
