• Water Management in Action

    EDF Group

Water is used in energy production and supply, and, in turn, energy is used for pumping, moving, and treating water. As a result, in a context of climate change, the linkages between both energy and water systems have grown more complex and interdependent.  more[...]

    European Environment Agency (EEA)

This report presents an assessment of the progress projected or achieved by the European Union (EU), its Member States and other EEA member countries towards achieving their greenhouse gas (GHG) emission targets for the first commitment period under the Kyoto Protocol (KP) and for 2020 under EU unilateral commitments. The report supports and complements the annual report of the European Commission to the European Parliament and the Council on the progress of the EU and its Member States towards set targets, as required by Article 5 of the EU Monitoring Mechanism Decision (MMD) (EU, 2004).  more[...]  login_required

  • Water valuation: Building the business case

World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)

This publication aims to demonstrate the business case for companies to engage in water valuation and is supported by a review of 21 business case studies that illustrate why and how different companies have carried out water valuation. It is a first response to Vision 2050, a WBCSD report that lays out a pathway leading to a world where 9 billion people live well, within the limits of the planet, by 2050 (WBCSD, 2010). Water Valuation: Building the business case paves the path towards the integration of true water values and true water costs into decision-making.  more[...]

  • Global Witness condemns API lawsuit to strike down Dodd-Frank oil, gas and mining transparency provision

Global Witness is outraged by a lawsuit filed by the American Petroleum Institute (API), the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and others to gut Section 1504, an important anti-corruption provision of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. (1) By seeking to nullify this provision, API, whose members include BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil and Shell, and other industry groups are demonstrating that they have something to hide. Any claims by API that they support transparency efforts are preposterous when they are not only trying to weaken the rules but to strike Section 1504 in its entirety.  more[...]  login_required

  • Less is More

    Fridolin Weindl, BSH
    BSH Group

Less is more – This applies especially where the environment is concerned. Less energy consumption means more climate protection, because using energy efficiently is the fastest and easiest way to save energy and avoid CO2 emissions. This applies to all areas of life – including the “little things”. With super-efficient home appliances, every household can reduce its power and water consumption considerably. And that benefits our climate and our budgets.  more[...]  login_required

The increasing number of hurricanes, forest fires, and severe floods are just some of the examples of devastating natural events that can be attributed to climate change. Cooperating to mitigate climate change has never been more urgent. Economic considerations in the effort to cut greenhouse gas emissions are becoming ever-more important: In the Otto Group’s Climate Protection Strategy too, economic aspects play a key role.  more[...]  login_required

  • The Sustainable Potential in Energy Efficiency

Lisbet Bræmer-Jensen, Grundfos & ‘Act NOW‘
    Grundfos

The human race is facing one of its biggest challenges, and if ignored, it could potentially spiral out of control. Over the past century, the rising global population has triggered a massive growth in industry development, leading to a bottleneck effect where existing resources are disappearing and the challenge to discover new energy sources has become a top priority. According to the US Energy Information Administration, the world’s energy consumption has increased on average 1.4 percent every year since 1990. It is forecasted to continue, which will result in a 49 percent increase in energy consumption from now until 2035.  more[...]

  • Improvements in processing plants

    Francesca Carnesella, Camposol and Copeinca
    Copeinca

COPEINCA’s environmental management is oriented toward efficiency in the process of production. We have modernized and re-promoted our processing plants to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from the fuel used for the production of fishmeal. The process is now efficient thanks to the technological implementations and innovations that allow us to produce fishmeal of better quality with Steam Dried technology instead of Direct Fire technology. This innovation has allowed us to not only reduce the amount of gas emissions and particulate materials released into the environment, but also to create a type of fishmeal with better levels of protein.  more[...]  login_required
